Upgrading DataGate and ASNA Visual RPG

To upgrade DataGate and ASNA Visual RPG

Products you need

For deployment

  • DataGate 17.1 for IBM i 
  • For Web apps
    • DataGate WebPak 17.1 for Windows Web server
    • Run the EXE on the Windows server
  • For fat clients
    • AVR 17.1 Deployment

For development:

  • Visual Studio 202 (install before AVR) 
  • AVR 17.1 
    • Remove AVR 16.0 before installing AVR 17.1
    • Multiple version of Visual Studio can be installed on a single PC, but only one version of AVR can be installed on a single PC.
    • Your 16.0 projects upgrade automatically to 17.1 when you open the. This implicit conversion is one-way; so be sure to have good backups of all of your source.

Upgrade installation order 

  • Do the server first
    • Install DataGate for IBm i 17.1 (order versions of AVR can work with with higher versions of DataGate). 
    • Test apps against new DG for IBM i
    • Install WebPak (match version to DataGate for IBM i) 
    • Test apps against new WebPak
  • Then upgrade dev PCs
    • Remove current version of AVR
      • You can only have one version of AVR installed at a time on a single PC
    • Install Visual Studio 2022 (Professional or up)
      • You don’t have to remove the previous version of Visual Studio—but you might as well. However, you can have multiple versions of Visual Studio on the same PC.
    • Install ASNA Visual RPG 17.1

Other info

You don’t need to recompile your older projects — they will run as is with the 17.1 Web pak. 

You will need new keys for all upgraded ASNA 17.1 products. Call us for temp keys for use during installation. After installation call us for perm keys.

No changes are needed to IIS on either the Web server or your dev boxes.
