It’s the holiday season once again and we wish you a very merry holiday and a happy new year!
This issue features a new, very helpful CSS module, information on a Windows DLL that went missing, and a refresher on a better way to dispose objects with Visual RPG.
CSS has a superb new scoping feature
As of December 9th, CSS scoping is supported by all major browsers. This new feature makes it much easier to impose component-based organization on your CSS.
See Up your CSS game with CSS scope article at ASNA.com for more details on CSS scope.
Also, if you haven’t checked lately, CSS has a acquired many other new features in the last couple of years. Here are are a few to investigate:
Got dem ol’ Windows DLL blues again
We’ve had a few reports recently from Visual RPG 5.x customers having issues with the MSVCR110.dll not being found. Some customers have insisted “nothing has changed” (which is the second most-repeated misdirection since, “The check’s in the mail”) when the error occurred. Other customers report that a Windows update preceded the error.
The MSVCR110.dll is not distributed by ASNA; it is a Windows system file and is a part of the MS C++ runtime. Customers have been able to resolve this problem by reinstalling the MS C++ redistributable.
It’s important to note that this error is a Windows/Microsoft issue. If reinstalling the DLL doesn’t resolve the issue, you’ll need to get Microsoft’s help.
Windows 10 has left the building
Our previous issue of this newsletter announced that, effective October 14th, 2025, Windows 10 is offically no longer supported by Microsoft and ASNA.
We were braced for at least a few frantic phone calls. How many did we get? Zero. Zip. Nada!
In retrospect, that makes sense. We knew, and said clearly, that Windows 10 would continue to run—at least for while after its supported lapsed. So maybe it’s not that our phones didn’t ring. Maybe Windows customers just haven’t called yet.
We doubt that, though. The customers we have talked to about Windows 10 since the first of year have all seemed well-prepared and ready with Windows 11. We hope that’s the case for you.
If you have any feedback on your Windows 10 upgrade experience, we’d love to hear it. Send us an email at info@asna.com with your Windows 10 comments.
A better way to dispose objects with Visual RPG
An often-overlooked feature of ASNA Visual RPG (AVR) is its BegUsing operation. This operation allows for a more streamlined use of objects that provide a Dispose method that must be called before the object instance goes out of scope.

Need help with your Visual RPG applications?
We’ve talked to a few customers lately who no longer have any employees with ASNA product knowledge. Most of these are due to either retirement or business acquisitions and/or employee reassignment. Even the simplest things, like applying a new license, are sometimes challenging to do without ASNA talent available.
Is your shop running low on Visual RPG talent? Do you need some help with your ASNA Visual RPG application? ASNA’s Services Team can help you with:
- Upgrades. ASNA Upgrades are usually pretty straightforward, but challenging to do without any ASNA experience. Our Services Team can help you with your upgrades.
- Program fixes and maintenance. Our Services Team can make ongoing program changes and enhancements needed.
- Migrating your application’s database. In some cases, you might want to retire your old ASNA application and migrate its database to another platform. Our Services Team can help migrate that old database to a variety of modern database platforms.
- Migrating the app. If your application needs to be migrated to a new environment, the ASNA Services Team can also help with that. Our team has extensive .NET, C#, and IBM i programming experience.
