Migrating IBM System i Applications with ASNA Monarch

This 4-day class covers ASNA Monarch technology in detail. A good understanding of RPG/ILE, DDS and CL is assumed as well as some intermediate knowledge of AVR for .NET.

This class covers best practices, tips and techniques for modernizing and migrating applications using Monarch and AVR for .NET.

The seminar begins at 8:45 a.m. on the first day. The seminar will end between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. each day and at 3:00 on the final day. Attire for the seminar is casual.

This class lasts four days and will be presented at our San Antonio training facility.

Migrating System i Applications with ASNA Monarch class agenda

This curriculum provides a solid overview of ASNA’s Monarch Visual RPG and how it is used to modernize and migrate System i applications to the .NET Platform. This curriculum assumes:

  • A general knowledge of RPG, CL and DDS
  • Attending ASNA’s AVR for .NET intermediate session and/or least 30 days experience with AVR for .NET (preferably both)
  • At least cursory skills with Internet-related technologies such as HTML and JavaScript.
  • After attending this class, students will have a well-rounded knowledge of the ways you can use Monarch to modernize applications.

The Migration Process

The initial segment provides an overview of the migration process. The basic concepts of Monarch are covered and the students migrate a small application to .NET.

  • Migration of Message Files

Enhancing a migrated application

This segment teaches how to enhance the look and navigation of an application once it has been migrated.

  • Application contact points
  • Enhancing the Display File UI using Subfiles
  • Monarch DDS Widgets
  • Using Custom User Controls

Advanced topics

The final segment is devoted to analyzing and resolving situations confronted with more complex applications.
