Letter from the President

Greetings!
Welcome to the April/May issue of ASNA Edge! ASNA has had a great start to 2007 with a 15% increase in sales in the first quarter compared to last year. Now, as we enter the second quarter we're implementing bigger and more exciting changes to serve you even better than we have before.
Based on your feedback, we’re restructuring our technical support offerings and ramping up our technical support team. We'll announce these new support options in the upcoming months. In the meantime, we'd like to welcome Eddie Vidal, David Toedt, and Francisca Garcia to our tech support team. And, we'd also like to welcome Murali Adikeshava whose focus is to ensure that deliverables are made to our customers in a timely and complete manner. If you have any comments or suggestions for us in this area, please contact Murali@asna.com.
We’ve heard great responses from you about our new asna.com web site. We're in the process of enhancing the developer and support sites as well. If you have suggestions about things you'd like to see in the developer site that could improve your experience with it, please send us those suggestions to marketing@asna.com.
Now that you’ve heard about our recent achievements we want to hear about yours. ASNA would love to spotlight your success in a case study or as part of our other marketing materials. If you're interested in helping ASNA get out the word about successful solutions, please contact colleen.pence@asna.com
Sincerely,

President of ASNA
Wyandot saves money and makes customers happy with ASNA Visual RPG

Wyandot, Inc. is a 70-year-old contract manufacturing food supplier, producing private label snacks and foods for some of the world’s largest food marketers. Wyandot had previously used ASNA’s Visual RPG for .NET (AVR) to create a production scheduling system. This system not only eliminated the need for a $100K vertical software package, but it also put the Wyandot developers in more direct control of the software that drives Wyandot’s manufacturing process.

AVR for .NET Tech Tip #1
An inside look at AVR for .NET's memory file
AVR for .NET's memory file is an RPG programming interface over .NET's System.Data.DataSet. Under the covers, what really lurks in a memory file is .NET's System.Data.DataSet. The memory file surfaces this DataSet with its dataset property. The DataSet is the central nervous system of the memory file. To understand the memory file you must understand the DataSet.
AVR for .NET Tech Tip #2
Implementing auto field advance in AVR for .NET browser-based apps

Consider the Web form shown to the right. By default, the way HTML input works, the user needs to explicitly tab out of each textbox to enter each part of the telephone number. Often, especially for heads-down data entry, a desirable feature is to have your applications' textboxes automatically move focus to the next textbox when all the possible characters been typed into any a textbox--let's call it "auto field advance." Auto field advance is how a 5250 display file behaves. Heads-down data entry operators swear by this feature.
